bought this b.h. called "FAST TRACKER"comes with a concentric coil------------------anyone know anything about it>any feed-back would help.thanks guys.

Hey Semper Fi! My favorite detector! I keep a Walmart version in the back of my car-if I ruin it I've only lost about $30! I think my version is like yours-rotate the disc. knob fartherest to the left with a "click" and you're in all metal-right? Now here's the neat trick-take a nickel and wave it in front of the coil (make sure there's no jewelry on your hand). Click on the disc. knob and rotate it to the right while waving the nickel in front of the coil. When it loses all the high tone and goes to only low tone- you're set! It will go from high tone to mixed tone to low tone. NOW whenever you hunt, nickels will give the low tone, tabs the mixed tone, and coins above the nickel high tone. They never put this in the manual, so I hope you enjoy.

yeah...I have heard of that trick, and wish they would update the manual with it...from what I hear, it works well when done that way.
Here is a link to the manual for the detector:

HH,

Hi!

This is the detector that I use and LOVE. I hunt for relics at least 95% of the time so I use it in all metal mode. The target seperation with the 7" coil is great. I purchased the 10" coil and love the depth with it. I still find some rather amazingly small items with the 10" coil too. The one thing that I found is that I get better performance with a slow coil sweep, about one foot per second or slower.

Since I hunt in all metal mode, I use the reverse discrimination trick. When I hit a target I turn the disc on. If I lose my signal I know that it is iron. If I lose a high signal at around the 9:00 position it is usually brass, lead or a zinc Lincoln. If I keep a high tone until the disc. is almost all the way on and then it turns to a low signal, it is almost certainly a large piece aluminum and if it stays high all the way through, I get excited since it is most likely silver or copper. I have been fooled a couple of times though. I found a clad dime that was almost exactly on its edge and the signal went from high to broken at around the 9:00 position and went totally away at the 10:00 position and I had an old oil can top read with a high tone with the disc. all the way on. It was over 18" deep too and laying totally flat. No matter what it reads, I dig though. I just like to play a bit and try to guess the item before digging. I hunt mostly in areas that haven't had foot traffic in 70-150+ years. No can slaw for me! :clapping:

I personally would recommend this machine highly and don't see me "upgrading" anytime soon. BTW, I wrote BH and they told me it was the same detecting technology as the Tracker IV, just without the little needle display and without the notch disc.

Enjoy it and HH,
Doug
