Anybody See A Sovereign Control Box Thrown Into A Waterproof Box Mounted High On A Back Shaft Extension To Keep It From Floating/Dragging In Water? Se

Just curious, because if many Excal guys mount their POD high on a long shaft or a shaft extention to ride it high out of the water to lesson drag, seems like it would work for the Sovereign too thrown into a waterproof box to where you could get as deep as neck deep and still the box wouldn't be dragging/floating in the water. I'm really liking this idea and am just wondering if anybody has seen a thread on that as it seems like the perfect solution. And no worries of the waterproof box leaking either since it should never even touch the water. Of course we all know the coil cables are super long for any coil for the Sovereign/Excal, so no issues there with extending it. Get home and pop the box open, thrown the GT back onto your land shaft, and your good to land hunt in minutes too. This may be my winter project...

Too much work for me. Besides, not only did my FBS units get more chatty and less depth on my mineralized beaches, but they also did the same in my mineralized soil. Not true for everybody of course, but I'm not the first person to say the same thing. I think the lower frequency spectrum biased in the 1.5 to 25khz range of the BBS units is penetrating my minerals better for some reason, and also making for a smoother ride. I suspect the stock 10" FBS coil might have had something to do with that though (never liked that coil, but the 10" BBS coil is the second best I've ever used), so Explorer #4 gets a 12x10 when it comes around sooner or later to see if that clears up some issues I had.

Sounds like it could be feasible but you might want to re-read your post titled "Ergonomics- Setting Your Sovereign Or Excalibur Shafts Up For For Ideal Balance And Comfort, And Getting COG (Center Of Gravity) Right Too. Very Important IMO!"

It probably would add so much weight behind you that you will need to put a fair amount of downward pressure to keep the coil at the bottom.

How about a floating water proof box teathered to the shaft or to your belt that you pull behind you? Just a random thought that has been running through my head.

I don't know if the COG thing would be much of an issue in the water. The force of the water around the coil and shaft would probably take a lot of that counter weight issue of the box out of the equation I would think maybe? I know there are many Excalibur guys who build real long shafts or put an extension on the back of them so the POD is well above their shoulder for less drag, and those PODs weigh a lot more than the Sovereign control box does even if mounted in a waterproof plastic box I would suspect? Besides, I'm running a very light 3 cell lipo in my GT so that drops a good bit of weight from the control box and makes it pretty darn light.

Far as the teather thing, yep...Good idea to drag it behind you so it's out of the way. Or you could throw it around your neck, put one arm through the strap, and then lift your arm and push the control box around so it's behind your back and out of the way. If you need to mess with it just lift your arm and swing it right back in front of you again. Seems like a good idea, and with enough slack if you get say neck deep it'd just float behind you.

I just figure hard strapping a waterproof box to your chest would be a bit floaty and in your way maybe, but who knows for sure unless all these options above are tried to see what works best for you in the water. Hard to say either way until each is tried to see how pratical they are.
