The 6000di Pro is a good old banger, somewhat heavy by modern standards. It is the immediate predecessor to the 6000 Pro SL (Slim Line) and the 6000 Pro XL and was "top of the line" in its day. Assuming it is working OK, it will talk to you, and you will have to listen to what it is saying - which will take several hours of bench and yard practice, and reading, especially if it's your first detector. Yeh, the pre sets should be good to go unless you live in the Rocky Mountains or somewhere with lots of minerals. Put her in GEB Disc, Pre-Sets, and turn the sound down to where you can barely hear it (threshold) over clean ground. Throw down a dime and locate it with the coil MOVING, go off to the side and pull the trigger, which puts it in non-disc PINPOINT MODE, and come back over the target to "locate" it and determine "depth." BINGO .. you are now a metal detectorist. Well, maybe after a few hours of practice, digging everything, and listening closely to everything to see the differences in signals. Lots and Lots of relevant commentary on the di, SL and XL in the back files here, especially by MONTE and DIGGER. Go up to the "Search" line at the top of the page, click on that, and type in "Monte White's 6000" or "Digger White's 6000" and it should lead you to many interesting entries and stuff to print off. Digger has some especially good tips on interpreting the clipped sounds, chirps, and what all. It likes iron and rusty bottle caps often report in as dimes. Get used to it and figure it out ! Happy hunting.
