Anybody know what this is?

Found this in my vacant lot today. Seems to be a blade of some sort as the right edge in the first photo is a beveled edge and very sharp for having been in the ground for ?? years. I'm thinking that it might be the blade out of an old wood plane.

Is it brass or steel?

looks like an old safe hinge plate, has the four holes spaced right.these went over the hinges as a decorative piece, looks like brass or bronze.Great find HH Wayne in Delaware

That's a great question Hank. In person it looks like steel but now that you mention it, the photo looks like brass. I checked with a magnet and it definately isn't iron or steel. The sharp edge puzzles me though. Thanks for you comments.

To me it looks to go to a golf club.

I bet that blew your headphones off when you hit that MrGee!

You guys are exactly right. My brother-in-law recognized it immediately. It is the butt plate off a golf club - someone's #1 driver. Excellent work from both of you. Last year I found a putter head...soon I can put together a set. (and of course I find golf balls all the time). Thanks guys.

Golf club skid plate...not the face plate, but the bottom plate...Would explain the beveled edges....
