Thank you Phil
I don't think the sample I found is Psilomelane. My sample is probably iron or steel. It is attracted to a magnet. Extremely dense.
The info on Psilomelane is appreciated. I've been in the midst of this mineral and didn't even know it.
As a surveyor I have seen this mineral and never paid much attention to it. It's just a curious rock around here.
From now on I'm going to collect samples and look for signs of heavy concentrations of the mineral.
I found the thing in my photo in a wood chip tot lot. Never know what you may find there.
A week or two ago I found a sample of Pirate in the same tot lot.
Finding the Pirate was a just dumb luck.
Manual ground balancing is relatively new to me. When I was in the tot lot I was experimenting with this feature and noticed I could set the GB so that I could get a fairly good response on mineralized rocks.
I was scanning for the mineralized rocks that had given me some minor problems. I just wanted to check some of them out.
That's when I found the Pyrite.
Here in Arkansas we also have Quartz, and diamonds. Plus many other interesting minerals.
Glad to know about another interesting mineral in my area.
Thanks again
