It's getting to be that time of year for giant puffball mushrooms here in lower Michigan. Several days ago, one of my MIL's old neighbors brought this over:

The salt is for scale.

I've seen several out in the woods, one of a similar size, but it was to far gone to "spore". The others were a little smaller, but still huge.

I'm not really fond of these things, as they taste like a flavorless sponge. It could just be the way my MIL fries them. Maybe if I make a beer batter using some Drake's mix that I have stashed away. I know that works good for button mushrooms.
