I still own and use the original T2 that i have owned since 2006/7 one of the 1st batch i guess into the UK,it has found me more gold coins than all my other machines put together, its deep very deep and it all depends of course what your objective target size is and then you use the relevant coil for the job,the largest coil that i use is the NEL Big 17x15 and when running in AM mode on clean open pasture sites then it certain is a deep machine. But still my favourite coil for general depth that is still sensitive to small targets is the SEF 15x12 coil and its pretty light for it size.
I also own and use the Equinox as well with all 3 coils 6'',11 and the 15'',main reason is that i was after a machine that is relatively light but the ability to work a very productive roman villa site that was occupied for 400 years, but the soil conditions are very akin too black sand and a single freq machine like the T2 just wont cut it,its the domain of multi freq and Pulse machines,i have both these option but prefer the Nox as it works well and also has of course full discrimination, the TDI pro does of a fashion but is hard work.
Its swings and roundabouts with each machine,no such thing as a wonder do it all detector,so this is why for the same money as a single freq machine these days you can buy a Nox and use it either in multi freq mode or individual freq's as well and that is the winning trump card, also not forgetting its totally submersible as well.
My T2 wont ever be sold and i still holds that crown for finding me the most gold coinage including celtic gold staters,George 11full guinea and Viccy Sovereigns, not sure what the magical electronic are in the control box but boy it does sniff out gold well, that is why some years ago it was the red hot machine for gold nugget hunting in Sudan etc,you could for a while have just bought a new standard T2 and they had been preprepared to offer and buy them for x 2 and 3 times what you paid for it as they had beaten supply from the factory. That in my mind speaks volumes how good they are for hunting not only gold nuggets but gold coinage as well.
