Anybody Get Their Back Ordered 12x10 From Kellyco Yet Or The Newly Arrived Ultimate, & Where To Find Out For Sure If They Have A Sovereign Version Of

Critterhunter

New member
I know some of you have PMed me and said you've been waiting for your back ordered 12x10 for a while, so I'm wondering if you got one yet or if anybody has got the new Ultimate yet that just arrived at Kellyco?

Somebody was PMing me about the 12x10 coil at Kellyco again, so even though this is mentioned in the coil sticky towards the end of that thread (how to figure out if they have a Sovereign coil in stock), I figure can't hurt to post a bit on it here. If they ever are looking for a Sovereign coil and don't see it on their site, make sure you talk to either JW or the guy listed below that is also in the coil sticky, as they both seem to be up on exactly what stock they have or are getting in while some of those sales people don't seem to know what they have sometimes unless they can easily find it on their webpage. So don't take a "we don't carry the Sovereign version" by somebody as a for sure thing until you ask at least one or two others at Kellyco who might know otherwise.

I wouldn't bug Dan below until you try to talk to JW or somebody else first that should know what they have in stock or when it might be coming in, but Dan did post on here a few weeks back that the Sovereign version of the Ultimate was finally in for the first time, so I expect he'd be the one to know if the 12x10 back orders on the Sovereign are in again yet or if you are looking for some other coil like the 5" Excelerator, which I haven't seen the Sovereign version listed on their page for about a year but I do know Detech still makes it, so perhaps that coil is hidden too like the 12x10 was for a while in the Sovereign version. You had to know just where to look to find it for a while because it was listed in a poor obscure spot you wouldn't expect to see it, and I remember calling once and having somebody say they didn't think they carry it because obviously then didn't know where to see it on their site I think.

At least a while back Kellyco would give you free shipping on the SEF coils if you said you wanted the Findmall special. Not sure if they still do that and not sure if they might also do it for the 13" Ultimate coil as it's also a Detech coil like the SEFs so maybe they do for it too?

By the way, somebody just told me in a PM that Kellyco is said to be coming out with 3 more field test reviews of the 13" Ultimate soon. Not sure if any of those guys are using a Sovereign or Excal to field test it and that's what I want to read, because we all know some coils can be great on some machines but for some odd reason don't work well on other platforms. Although what little I hear thus far about the Sovereign version seems to sound like it's just as good as the FBS version, but that's a tiny sliver of tiny reports I've caught blurbs of from over seas or here in this forum from a few lucky BBS guys that got their hands on this coil a while back.

Anyway, here's Dan's Email, but like I said don't bug the guy looking for a coil until you talk to at least JW or somebody else who should know which coils are in, as I'm not sure it's Dan's job to be answering that question all the time for people or not? But he did tip us off in this forum about the Ultimate for the Sovereign finally getting in and posted his Email address so I don't think he'd mine me re-posting it like I did in the coil sticky...

As you guys know I love the 12x10 Detech coil on my GT sold by Kellyco, so here's what might be big news to some of you who have been waiting for yours!

Got this in a PM about the 12x10 Sovereign version at Kellyco but it's only what this guy was told so don't take any of this as 100% fact as you know how things can go due to various unknown variables like how many they got and how many people are on the list of back orders that get filled first and such...

I highly edited the message so as to protect his identity and also to leave out various non-related details...

I Withheld His Name To Post This Blurb Publicly said:
I was told they were in stock and would ship out today or tomorrow. Yes, free shipping.

...but the e-mail (just got it) says tomorrow is the shipping date. We shall see !!??

He can take credit for this news if he wants to, as I don't like to post a person's handle on something they sent me in a PM, even if I think it is fine to re-post publicly without any issues about doing that. Always respect your sources, even if they are telling you something that seems a rather mild topic.

Oh, and I had asked if he asked Kellyco if they were still doing the SEF findmall special where you get free shipping if you say "give me the Findmall special". Sounds like from what he said they still are continuing that policy. Not sure if they are also doing that for the 13" Ultimate, but they might as it's also a Detech made coil like the SEFs are.

If anybody gets your 12x10 you've been waiting on for a while please let us know, and also please post your initial impressions of it just by look and weight compared to what other coils you have. Also please give us an initial impression on your first field hunt with it down the road, and then later on as you use it more on future hunts. I know it's asking a lot as many users on this forum never post publicly, as believe me I get some Emails or PMs from people who I think I never see post a message openly in the forum, but it never hurts to ask to post a opinion on a coil so long as it's not a hit piece.

If you are the type who simply refuses to post public messages then shoot me your opinion on the 12x10 in a PM (or any coil for that matter) and I'll post it here with your name removed so others don't know who you are. I know how even some don't want to post any simple plain jane mild opinion on a topic publicly.

I just love to read any field reports on coils, especially Sovereign versions as versions for other platforms can be different and what is a good coil on one machine might not be as good on another, so please share with everybody if you can.

Only thing is if it seems like a hit piece on any coil (doesn't have to be a review of the 12x10) then I ain't posting it because if you want to go that route then you shouldn't mind posting it yourself to stand behind your remarks. Nobody expects a review to be all peaches and creams but if it's 99.9% "I hate this thing" then you're on your own as I don't want to be a part of that.

And don't think you have to write a novel like me. Even just a few short sentences like "it feels such and such in weight to me compared to my other coil", or "the look of this thing is hard to get used to", or "I do notice the coverage is a bit better and I don't have to hold my steps back when working the ground in front of me as much", or just a short "I dug some deeper than usual coins with it than I normally get in dry conditions", or even something like "the separation of such and such coil seems to be better/worse than my other coil"...

Anything even short and simple like that can be of use to others, as many people like to get opinions from many other people to base a decision on. I know some for sure think I'm too much of a fan boy of the 12x10 for example to give an unbiased report on it. I don't object to that notion as it's just human nature to want to seek opinions from others who haven't drank the kool aid on a subject quite as much as others have.

I was just told by somebody that they just got their shipping notice from Kellyco so it looks like 12x10s are on their way to people if you've been waiting.

Got this notice about the 13" Ultimate in a PM today. Name withheld of course...

"I am one of the few who got their 13in ultimate coil for the Sov GT from Kellyco. It came a couple weeks ago. And yes, Kellyco honored the Findmall free shipping discount!"

So it appears that Kellyco is not only still doing the free shipping of the SEF coils if you tell them you want the "Findmall special", but is also doing it for the 13" Ultimate coils that are also made by Detech as well (like the SEF coils they make)! As always though, don't count these blurbs as fact. I am only relaying what I was told and should be considered just word of mouth and not 100% fact, so in no way expect Kellyco to live up to what is just idle and simple conversation between fellow hunters. I make no claims to knowing that all I've heard is 100% fact. That said, in my dealings with Kellyco they've always been a stand up company, so if they say something different you can pretty much count on the fact that they are telling you the way it is.

Also, this person told me they won't be able to use the coil until September. They offered to perhaps ship me the coil to review in comparison to my stock 10" Tornado and 12x10. If that pans out then look forward to another novel by Critterhunter that nobody wants to read.

Just got word that the Ultimate coil is being shipped to me by a fellow hunter who wants me to try it out for a while and field test it to post a little review, as they won't be able to use the coil for a while due to other obligations. So far I've only dug up one or two small blurbs from Sovereign users on it that I had already posted, as this coil is so new and the Sovereign version has only recently arrived at Kellyco. Sure, there are a bunch of FBS machine reports on the coil which seem very happy with it, but as we all know some coils for some reason don't work well on other platforms when versions are made for them. What tiny few initial reports from Sovereign users I've been able to dig up on the net and posted here do look positive though.

By the way, I'm sure it seems like I'm talking to myself here but I've got many PMs and Emails from forum members who have both been asking about the Ultimate as well as wondering in the past wondering when the next shipment of the 12x10 would be coming in as they've been waiting for it. That's why I'm bothering to post being in at Kellyco and such, because many people don't care to post publicly and will only ask questions or relay information via Emails or PMs because they just don't like to post a public message. I've had enough PMing or emailing over the last few months that I felt it was a good idea to keep people up to date on these questions here.

I ordered a 12x10 for my GT from Kellyco. Should be here next week. Shipping confirmed by Kellyco.

Glad to hear people are getting them now. They must have got in a big enough shipment to fill all back orders because I think one or two people have told me they just ordered the coil in the last week or two and it was shipped right out by the sound of it. Did you just order yours or had you been on a waiting list?

Did you get the free shipping by saying you wanted the Findmall special? And how about a quick post about your initial impression of the coil weight/looks wise compared to your other coil(s)? I'll also beg for a short field report because it's always interesting to read other's opinions on a coil in the field even if I have the same coil. Sometimes others notice things you don't and you learn a few things that way.

Remember too- Without the coil cover that coil is lighter than the 10" Tornado and even lighter than the legendary light weight of the S-12. The FBS versions of the SEF are heavier though. That's why I'm anxious to find out the true weight of the Ultimate because I read a few small blurbs that say the FBS version is lighter than the BBS version. Seems to go against the rule of the FBS versions of the SEF coils being heavier. If anybody wants to see the weights of various coils we put a chart together with a bunch of coils people weighed for the BBS and FBS machines that a link can be found to on the first page of the coil sticky.

Yea, got my 12x10 SEF for my GT from Kellyco this morning!! First impression is that it feels lighter then the stock 10". However, I've got to take care of family business before I get a chance to try it out. My dear aunt that raised me passed away this morning and I have to leave for Ca. soon.

Sorry to hear about your aunt. We realize how trivial things like coils and metal detecting are in the big picture of life when something like that happens.
