At the beach yesterday I was playing around and even though I could run at about 3PM sensitivity wise there was still more nulling than I like, so for some odd reason I switched to band 1 even though I knew there was no chance of EMI around. Oddly, the nulling went away as I swept the sand now, and I was able to raise it to about 2 or so without the nulling as I swept. To confirm things I flipped back over to band 2 and the nulling was back when I swept around. And it was the sand for sure, because if I held the coil still it was rock solid stable with no chatter or nulling. So it appears the sand liked the particular frequencies of band 1 for some odd reason and not band 2. Now, I don't think switching bands changes the output frequencies, but rather changes which ones are paid attention to on the receiving end. So I suspect certain frequencies were having issues with the minerals in the sand in band 2 but not as much in band 1.
I always like to stay in band 2 because the mid conductors like nickels match all the Sovereign charts, because it appears older Sovereigns that couldn't switch bands were stuck in band 2. That's why I built my chart using band 2 as well, so older Sovereigns could use it as reference too. When I switched to band 1 nickels now read 149. I never see them that high in band 2. Usually they read 143 to 146.
Just wondering if anybody else has been far away from EMI and for some odd reason found that one band or the other seemed to handle the soil better? If it ain't nulling when holding the coil still but is when sweeping, then for sure it's a soil problem with one band versus another IMO. I think for now on I might start checking both boths in bad soil and see if one allows higher sensitivity settings or at least less nulling in that particular soil for optimum depth and performance.
