The 1236x is an excellent relic machine, especially in a iron infested site. Just click it down in iron preset and go. The Iron preset is about the same as placing the discrimination at 4 or 4 1/2. I have dug 3 ring minie's at a easy 8" deep with a strong signal. I just picked up my 1st 1266x last week and I plan on making a run soon to compare the two. So far in my test bed, the 1236x runs even with it. As with all older Fishers, set the sens so it just starts to chatter.

They are popular in England, with their bad soil and iron onfested sites. Oughta tell you something....

My father had a 1225x for about 8 years. While he would not be considered a" relic hunter", he found a good share of non coin items whenever we would hunt an old house site.

Well, I'll let you know, as I expect to purchase one within the week. I'm more interested in it's simple beep-dig format and getting back to a "real" Fisher. I'd also like to see how it stacks up against my Vaquero.
At this point, I don't see how it could materially improve on that model. My intent is to get the large coil for the 1236-X2 and keep the small coil for the V.
Between them, I'll have a one heck of a beep-dig punch.
