Anybody ever tryed Santo Domingo before ?

I'm planning this month's vacation and were seriously lurking at the Hilton's Coral costa caribe near Santo Domingo D.R. It's not a five star hotel... barely a four star but i don't mind at all... we usually go to 3 and a half stars hotels. If we go there, it will be from jan 21th to feb 4.
Anybody ever detected there ???

If it's not there, then we'll return to Puerto Plata. There are two or three hotels we can afford. Our budget is around 4300.00$ for 3 persons for two weeks...all inclusive. So with that kind of money, we don't expect caviar and champagne every morning. Still we don't want to fight bugs all night

Too bad for Cuba, they don't allow metal detectors at the airport... i could have got a 3000.00$ deal in Cayo Guillermo... but, It is still a bit risky in January to get one or two chilly days in the week. After all it's only a few miles south of Florida. So not to take any chances, we'll fly to the D.R. again.

So anybody ever tryed their luck down there ? Will bring the excal.

See if there are any adjoining resorts as that will give you a bigger area to work when you're on vacation and lootin'.:crylol:

Cheers,

Are you sure you can take a detector to the DR?? Don't think I would try it myself......they may confiscate it!

it looks like deep water to me and the way it shelves off might be pumped on soft sand but hey - prove me wrong i am sure if you can get to it it will have loads of bounty in it.

I was in Punta Cana D.R. in 2007 and 2006. I spent many hours in the water with my Excalibur achieving limited results. The waves were extremely strong, and areas along the coast where the water was calm, the sand was shallow with a hard pan underneath. Aside from some silver rings and various coins, the targets were very limited. When I downloaded my tide charts for this area, I was surprised to see a small difference between high and low tides.

As for getting a detector in to the D.R., I had no problems. In 2007, they opened my hard case in customs (D.R.) and commented "Beep beep?" Then they just laughed and let me through.

Good luck, I thought the area looked awesome for detecting. On both trips I saw no metal detectors on the beach or in the water.
