went mding last week and adjusted threshold and when i hit a target the volume of the threashold would go down until i couldnt hear anything not even my metal scoop. i turned off detector and turned it on and it worked i got threhold back until a got a target and then volumne went down and again detector didnt work. i got home tried new batteries and still the same problem. so wondering if anybody ever had this problem. i called minelab 8 days ago and they were gonna have tech call me but havent heard anything back yet (. in the meantime im using my old white s pi and i fogot how deep it hits bottle caps and bobby pins ugghggg. lol. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated ty jim

I would guess the coil.
Lost a coil on the 2a one time. Would run OK for a few minutes then go into a very long null. Some times would do some blooping, chattering, and other wierd stuff during the null. Turning it off for a couple minutes and then restarting would bring it back for a couple minutes before the problem startrd over again.

thanks art guess will be sending it into minelab lol figured my extended warr just ran out too but i cant be digging craters with my pi for bottlecaps lol ty hh

Hope I pegged it right. My Sov did not want to pick up anything when this was happening.
Could hold the coil in the air and it was still nulling and doing funny things.
Acted like something was getting hot or going into oscillation briefly after turn on. Send in the box and coil both. Never can be sure unless both are checked out.

I had an issue with my Excal II that sounds somewhat similar to yours. I could power the machine up, would get a threshold tone, and after hitting a target, the machine would go dead. I noticed that if I applied downward pressure to the threshold pot that the machine would power back up. Sent it to Minelab, and it turned out to be a bad solder on the threshold pot.
