Found this today with my EX II. Have no idea how old it is. I'm going back to see if the other half is nearby.

You may have to take a guess based on time frame of other items found in the general area. Most modern spurs are made of stainless steel. It appears that the spur you found is a working cowboy spur and was possibly made by a black smith on a forge. I would also venture to say that this spur was made in the U.S. because many of the spurs made in Mexico has fancy silver inlay designs engraved on them. This spur was used on the left boot. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

The picture you provided looks like iron. You might want to provide as much information like measurements, material and etc. to assist people help you I.D. the spur. Most of the old spurs that I am familiar with were made from iron on a forge. Wish you luck on determining the age of the spur. I'd say it's Civilian, but it could be a Southern Spur from the CW era. Howard Crouch publishes a good book on spurs. It sells for $18 and well worth it. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
