Any Toltec 2 guys out there?

Hello,

Just checking to see if any of you have ever used this unit. I am looking for a metal detecting buddy for his collection (that's right, he is currently not married so he has several detectors). He mentioned that he would like to have one so give me your thoughts on this old timer machine.

Thanks,

Rob in Tennessee

The wife and I have had one since fall of 1995, it is her detector, but I use it the most. I believe the Toltec ll was introduced in 1994, I had the then new White's XLT as well and we went hunting alot together back then (she found the first gold ring). The Toltec ll is kind of heavy at around four pounds, and my wife hardley uses it, but I like to use it around old house sites, and it trumps the XLT in trashy areas. To make a long story short, we still own the Toltec ll and the XLT was traded off a long time ago.

The Toltec II can be hip mounted so the weight of the unit is usable at a far less weight. It can be used without the meter so the weight comes down to the coil, cord and pole sections. Not bad.

Poor remake of the Toltec 100....which may be Tesoro's best analog meter unit which was quite heavy. Lightened the load and meter on the rod was an inventive idea but no notch or tone ID and the meter is quite small. Not a bad unit but tone ID and a notch and would have been a good seller.Workable parks unit but you will become a meter watcher..

 The Toltec II is a great machine. I really like mine but I find myself reaching for the Golden uMax more often. The Toltec uses 8 AA batteries with wires & clips which is unhandy compared to a single drop in 9 volt battery. The lighted meter on the pole uses a single 9 volt though. This detector is kinda nostalgic because it was the very first Tesoro to use a uMax box for the meter. Then right after this is when Tesoro started the uMax series of detectors. Pretty cool.
