Hey everyone.my name is tom,I'm from Pittsburgh,i,v had a pioneer 101,for about five years now and never used it.i took it out Sunday and found two Penny's,and bunch of beer tabs, but I had a blast, any tips would be appreciated to help me better my findings, thanks tom

:usmc:

I'm not familiar with the 101 machine but a history research of your area would be a start. A look at old County and City maps and plats. Also think of places most likely to have coin drops like clothes line areas, dirt parking areas or highway pull outs. Places where parking lot snow removal is dumped. Where the street sweeper dumps. Around camp areas, boat docks and swimming areas on lakes and rivers. You also need to understand there are Federal Antiquities Laws and places such as Battle Fields that are off limits. Grass areas in between side walks and curbs can be productive. Old sections of concrete side walk removal in old business sections of town, check the soil exposed from under the concrete. May have had old board walks or none at all before concrete was ever put down. Old Movie drive inns and Burger joints that were not paved.

I have found coins and stuff in some rather unlikely places so don't limit yourself. Follow those Gut hunches and don't be afraid to dig them even if the machine is leading you to think it's junk. These new Bells and Whistle machines are set up to get you in the Ball Park with pre-set tones but they can also be fooled now and then. For detecting trashed out areas and around metal structures, you may want to add the 4" coil to your machine if it's made for it.

Good luck in your hunts

Thanks Robert,i Will try that out,the plates that I took a look at helped out great,i found some old time car washes on them I'm goen to give them a try,of course now threes a burger king on it now.ill post pics, good luck

Robert's advice on sidewalk parking strips is solid. I do quite well with strips in old neighborhoods/business districts. Usually is virgin ground and really old coins are sometimes rather shallow. Just make sure you use excellent coin extraction techniques. I know you will.:)

Thanks,i will defiantly will use the hatch door method.some of the old side wallks in western pa are owned buy the home oweners.i will give it a try,ill just have too ask before I search, thanks for the tips I'm goning to need.them, tom

if you haven't already. Along with the great advice already given try this little technique on your machine. When you are at the place you are going to hunt at, find a spot of ground free of metal. Now place a nickel on the ground. Turn your sensitivity to about 3 o'clock position. Your disc knob should be at full counter clockwise. Sweep the coil over the nickel and while doing this turn your disc knob slowly clockwise until the nickel is not heard. Now slowly turn the disc knob back counter clockwise until the nickel is just accepted and heard with good tone and stop. On mine it is usually around the 10 o'clock position.
Now you are ready to hunt . Dig all good repeatable tones. This will cut down on your trash, and increase your coin count, at least it has for me.
A forum member from long ago, can't remember who, told me about this and it works great . Keep us up to date on your hunts and have fun with the 101, it is same machine as the Tracker IV, a good un .
