This is what i do when i cant hunt. I have over 500 places in texas marked so if you can get a small help from what you see then have fun cause il never get to them all in my life. these places run from about 1880 to 1965.

Hey - I'm in Texas too. Wife won't go detecting with me so I need a hunting buddy. Soils wet tomorrow so we could dig some deepies! I'm 27, and try to go hunting a few times a week.

Yeah my 20 year old wife thinks texting her girl friends is more fun that detecting lol. i guess thats what i get for being 33 and to old to see her point of view haha. Any way i sent you a PM.

what is your method of finding these places? I'd like to research ghost towns in my area and I have a little, but not much luck on actual building locations etc. anyone got any ideas or good websites? 'Preciate any help..HH DEAN

If your in texas then this site should help http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/topo/texas/index.html. I just follow the maps and mark the locations in google earth. Some maps are old and some not so old. I try to stay in the 1960's or older. Some of the old maps are hard to follow cause the roads have changed so much. But thats how i do it.

I also just cruse around texas on google earth looking for little towns and then try finding a topo of the town or area. then i mark every school and church i can find. I also save the maps to my hard drive and turn them into one big pdf document so i can browse them wile on the road going to the places i want to hunt.
just in case some dont know the schools are the little black squares with a flag on top of them and the churches have a cross on them.
in goolge earth you can do a street view of some of the places and actually look at the site as if you were driving by it in you car. Thats a nice feature of google earth
