Any Tejon experts out there?

So I decided my next MD is going to be a non-metered beep and dig machine. I was looking at the Sovereign or the Tejon. I'd be primarily using it as a relic hunter for woods and fields, but would also be using it for coin hunting. Are there any Tejon users out there that could give me some insight into the machine? Pros? Cons? Quirks? Pinpoint accuracy? Any kind of information would be most appreciative. Thanks!

TEJON, Pin pointing is spot on, Cons= I honestly do not have one, pros= dual discriminators, adjusting sound pitch, all metal, deep, light, and the list goes on. I had sold a tejon a couple of years ago and it was the only detector I regretted ever selling and have since bought another one. I just love this detector and it is great for coin shooting and really excells at relic hunting. The manual ground balance takes a little practice as well as the single tone, but with a little practice the ground balance is a piece of cake and the single tone has a language all it's own and once learned is quite amazing. This is a very capable detector that is light weight and a lifetime guarentee.

Sovereign is a good detector, but I have a hard time with all of the tones of minelab, the weight is to much when relic hunting. Pros are that Minelabs like silver.

These are just my opinions from owning the detectors as they are both great, but I myself am a Tejon fan for sure.

I might be wrong but I am not sure Minelab supports the Sovereign anymore. You might want to check into this. The Tejon comes with a lifetime warranty and you can count on Tesoro to support it.

I have both. The tejon has a much faster response, more coil choices, and the coils are less expensive. deadly in the trash with the small coils. I have both the concentric and widescan 5.75 coils. I prefer the widescan...some prefer the concentric. Tejon is light but the sovereign is well balanced with the straight shaft. The faster recovery time on the tejon makes it better in the trash. Sovereign is slow and works better with a slow sweep speed but it is very deep and kicks butt on a wet salt beach. Tejon likes a faster sweep so you can cover more ground and the dual discrimination has great flexibility. Once dug over 300 coins in about 10 hours with the tejon. Minelab will still carry parts and do repairs until at least 2010..tejon has lifetime warranty as long as tesoro is still in business. Single tone with the tejon..changing tone based on conductivity with the sov in discrimination mode..single tone in all-metal. both machines are winners and the key to either one is spending lots of time getting to know it.

Hi Squirmingcoil77, LOL, I can't think of any "Cons" to speak of concerning the Tejon other than me being old and crepit and not able to use it so much as before. That I miss dearly. I will say though, as for 'experts" , anyone with a Tejon will soon feel like one. It is an awesome relic, button, and coin machine, and plenty light enough for an all day hunt(especially for old diggers like me !). A big "Pro" for the Tejon or any Tesoro would be the most time proven (from Tesoro's beginning) Lifetime Warranty and Service Guarantee. .I would suggest you do a "search" on the forum for all the info from posters using their Tejons for some first hand insight on the Tejon .I believe with that you will be well on you way to making the best choice. Just be sure to get the 5-75" con. coil to accompany your 9X8. It is great for pulling goodies from the trash and.It is plenty deep! HH Charlie

I know the Tejon will hit coins at 8" in my brothers test garden with the stock 9x8 coil.

How is the Tejon in iron compared to the Vaquero? My V. seems to like some of the iron that I encounter. Wheaty

Ron, The Tejon will go deeper than 8" on some coins for sure, but as you say, it hits at 8" pretty easy. I hit a 2 cent piece that had to be around the 10" mark as I was quite surprised and it still sounded pretty good.

Wheaty, As far as the Tejon vs the Vaq in iron, I think they both like some iron to a degree. Big iron is tough to get around. Sometimes if you raise your coil some you'll get a feel whether it is iron or a goody. When relic hunting, I tend to run low disc and will get big iron hits on other types of detectors as well. This is wher the dual discriminator can come in handy as well, as I'll set the primary dic low just above a nail and the second disc a little higher. It's all learning and playing with the detector and it will speak to you.

IMO opinion, the Tejon can't be beat for relics, and large field hunting. I use the CTX 3030 in yards and trashy public areas, but the Tejon is light, fast, and very deep...if you get your coil over it, there is no mistaking a target beneath your feet. Best of luck!

I hits hard on low end targets its a legend in the relic hunters world, reminds me alot of the 1266x, hank
