I've had my Spectra about three weeks, and have been using it on a FL beach. I'm using the salt water beach program. Recently, it started giving me false signals at almost every swing. It's frustrating to hear a signal, and find nothing there. I switched from the stock D2 coil to the Eclipse 950 coil, but results were the same. I had this same problem with my DFX-300, and sent it back to Whites for repair. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

Have you used te 950 on the beach before? Does it have a coil cover where some dirt might have gotten into it? (I'm guessing this is not the case, just trying to rule things out).
Do you have auto tracking enabled, or disabled?
Does it only happen in one place on the beach or everywhere?
You said recently, so it wasn't giving false signals before? Have you increased the gain or the disc sens recently? Have you switched frequency modes?
Have the beach conditions changed recently? Has more black sand come on shore than before?

You said,

I had this same problem with my DFX-300, and sent it back to Whites for repair.

Was there something wrong with the DFX? What had to be fixed? If it happen with both detectors at the same place it wonder. Did you try another area? Rob

I sent the DFX back to Whites on Oct. 16, and still haven't heard from them. Don't even know if they received it, although I sent it express, and it should have arrived the next day. My emails have gone unanswered also. I do know that the phone jack was loose, and the lock nut fell off. That's why I sent it. Probably should call them soon. I've always had good luck with Whites before. Have they forgotten about the little guy, and are concentrating on contracts?

Thanks for the reply. I'm using factory settings. I tried the 950 in response to an earlier post about chatter and false beeps that may have been caused by a bad batch of D2 coils. When I heard the 950 was compatible, I thought I'd try it. I get the false noises in all areas of the beach, using both the wireless headset and a plug-in one. I'm stymied. I'm still able to find coins, but it's difficult.

Mistakes happen. Do you have a tracking number? Might want to see if it actually got delivered. Phone calls are good - people get busy and email is not the most reliable method of communication.

Was the 950 coil ever used before? Is it V rated?

Were you getting clean signals with no falsing before, and now you are getting falsing? Or has it always falsed? (I'm trying to figure out what "recently" means for you - recently as in you bought it 3 weeks ago and it has always falsed, or recently as in it worked for a while and is now falsing. Then the question is has anything changed to cause the behavior of the detector to change? Beach conditions, settings...?)

Just sent my vision to whites over the same exact issues. Just touching the coil causes falsing as well as it just sitting in the air.

Deathwind1 has had good results with this:

Others too have had to turn down the factory setting a little bit to get stability................Just an idea.

Stupid... I tried the D2 coil again today, and it worked superbly. Guess the problem was the 950 coil with both the V3 and DFX. thanks for the feedback.
