Any suggestions on how to avoid nails/screws that show up as silver???

Using a Minelab XS in discrimination and selected out nails. Cursor shows in middle height on right borderline, or bounces all over the screen. Sensitivity on 10 Tone is similar to silver.

Try setting your variabilty at 7 as your iron may come in hig but screechy while your silver coins come in high tone but more pleasant.
Personally dig very little iron and have a keen sense for tones which is a big plus with an Explorer..

That could be old rusted crown caps on the right side or large iron. You can X out crown caps also like you did the nails if you are in ferrous mode the crown caps will sound high. Other option is to black out the signals in the edit mode page 77. If its large iron the high tone screech will be different then coin high tone which is a fluty high with threshold hum. Deep bent nails will sound good when they are not center under the coil, set up the back button to jump between conduct and ferrous and if you get a low tone in either one it iron.

Thanks for the insights, gentlemen. I've onl;y got one ear that works so I will focus more on the sounds. Picking up the differentiaton will be a challenge but there are some real benefits. THanks again!

Might use one of those headphones with only one earcup they use in Rattler country...Years ago actually experimented turning one earcup off and its different for sure..Remember Nautilus uses the feature where Ferrous and non-ferrous come in in seperate earcups and works well for Nautilus so would think you should have no problems...Some rainy day set up in your garage or porch and run a dime and quarter past the coil until the audio is imbedded in your brain...Also works for whatever else like nickels and gold jewelry, however gold jewelry varies due to size Kt. and what the gold is mixed with...
