The X5, like the other Shadow offerings, is a good analog type detector (referring to the electronic circuitry design and function), and you don't have to have any sort of target ID display to 'fit' the Analog detector category.

Please tell me you likes and dislikes about this detector. I have heard they are very deep. Any tips please.
I liked the X5's light weight and good balance.
I liked the smaller coils the best, as well as the elliptical coil. Not hot on bigger coils like the 'stock' X5 coil.
I liked the audio response under most hunting conditions.
I liked the higher-conductive coin responses I got from the high-frequency operation.
I have some dislikes about the tie-in between the Discriminate and Ground Balance controls because a change in the Disc. level can also shift the set GB. the it needs to be re-adjusted.
I have a dislike of the very tight control placement on the small display housing when hunting in colder weather and wearing a glove.
I disliked the pinpoint Touchpad which seemed to get a bit weak or lack easy function change.
I disliked the some performance I didn't seem to get in some dense iron littered sites where I usually hunt.
Tips? If you have a Shadow X5 then I suggest you do NOT use the preset (fixed) GB. Set the detector manually
after you have decided on the Discriminate level you want to use. As normal, adjust for a proper slight-audio Threshold setting, use the least Discrimination you can tolerate, Run the Sensitivity as high as possible w/o chatter. I suggest using the smallest coil you can use, especially in trash, and be sure not to sweep the X5 too quickly, especially in dense trash or when hunting in heavy mineralization.
Once set, with a very
slightly positive GB, get busy hunting and enjoy using it.
