Any reports on whites new 10" D2 DD coil.

Larry talks about them in the MXT forum. Do a search. I also seen an extensive report on them at another Whites forum.

[size=medium]on White's Official General Discussion Forum, and some here.

It is an excellent coil and has become my large-coil choice for the M6 and MXT. Where I live we have to deal with rather high mineralization and I've never been fond of the performance of the 950 coil here. I usually prefer to use a good concentric coil, and with models such as the XL Pro and XLT I like the 8" coil much better than the 950 or large, open area coverage. But such a choice isn't available from White's for the M6 & MXT so I have been content with the 5.3 Eclipse. But there are times when I would like better ground handling capability and depth, and the new 10" D[sub]2[/sub] coil provides just that.

It is lightweight and very well balanced!

It operates much quieter in many environments than the stock concentric.

There is generally less 'spread' in the VDI readings than with the stock 950.

In "good ground" you can get very sweet performance with an 8" coil, especially when you're after smaller, coin-sized targets, and even in the "bad ground" here in NW Oregon (much of western Oregon and Washington, actually) I do better with an 8" over the 950. For the MXT/M6 class detector I wish the 10" D[sub]2[/sub] coil was a replacement for the now-stock 950. I also wish there was an 8" DD coil available, in round form, not elliptical.

One benefit of a DD coil is being able to handle ground mineral signals, especially in high mineralization, and I am not all that thrilled with skinny DD coils. The round DD coils will handle ground mineral a little better while still providing better depth-of-detection over the narrower designs. An 8" DD (for those of us who have used a good one) in round form still does quite well in moderate trash and give good depth of detection. In low-to-minimal trash, the new 10" DD coils works just fine!

One thing I can tell you, and I am sure many White's users are finding, is that you can read all you want but nothing beats mounting this new coil to your M6 or MXT or DFX and then going out and doing some serious hunting with it. not a ten minuter stroll in the frond lawn, but put in a day or two of devoted detecting, especially at some sites you know you have hunted fairly well, and you're likely to come away from the experience a convert to the 10" D[sub]2[/sub].

Just my opinions.
