Any Pulse Devil info??

I've been looking into a PI machine for relic hunting some bad ground places. I've done quite a bit of searching around and obviously the two most popular units here are the Garrett Infinium and the Whites TDI.

Both pack a whallop in the wallet though. The Infinium gets a lot of good reviews but I DO NOT want a unit that uses 8 AA batteries and only lasts about 10 hrs max. That's basically saying every time I go hunt I'd be changing 8 batteries. No sir that ain't for me. The TDI ain't even in my league price wise.

So that got me to looking around and I've found this Pulse Devil detector that is also suppose to be a discriminating machine but all I've found on it are old hits from about '07 saying that it would be released shortly. I found some from early '08 but they basically just show pictures of it. I can't find any other info on the unit, other than I think it is made in the UK but is suppose to have a US version. Anybody know anything? Is it available yet...how much does it run US, and where can you find them?

Lots of us are waiting. Seems like every time it is close to a release date it gets put back again. Last I heard there were some units shipped to the UK and Europe for testing. I believe some units will also go to Australia for more testing. Dave Emery the creator and sole builder of the PD has had several health issue to battle which has also set hampered things some. I think we will see it in production soon, but how soon is anybodies guess. Would love to try one myself! :) :) :)

Doug in Australia, who runs a forum called Goldprospectinginoz has been one of Dave E.'s main supporters. He apparently has had enough. A recent posting on his forum was highly critical of Dave and basically said that there would not likely ever be a Pulse Devil which could do what Dave so often has promised.

Too bad - it would have been nice. Right now the Whit's TDI represents the most interesting platform for going forward with what paoswsibilites exist for discrimination with current PI technology. The Infinium is quite a bit cheaper (especially used) but the consensus seems to be that it has to be used really slowly, is prone to external noise pick-up and has two tones all the time which drives some people nuts.

I've never used an Infinium, but I'm pretty pleased so far with my TDI.

I would recommend using rechargable batts if you get the Infinium, will save you lots of batt cash. Use the 2500's and you will get many long hunts with it and get the 15 minute charger for them. well worth it.

Have been eagerly awaiting this machine for several years now also but still waiting sadly. Met dave several times in Europe over the years and listening to him the Pulse Devil has sounded a machine worth waiting for. I know hes had many issues that have delayed things including bad health and the need to earn a living while he has been developing it. Lets hope he still manages to bring it out one day.

hello Daniel,
It is a very good idea of the designer to have AA batteries in a metal detector for many reasons:

1) when you go far to search you have for sure fresh 100% alkaline battery YOU can TRUST ...

2) the rechargeable battery are not 100% reliable because many hobby detectorist go to search 1 a month or 1 to 3 months at this rate you can not have rechargeable battery reliable !!!

3) you can buy EVERY WHERE your AA battery in a small town or in road business.

4 ) see for example good research of the designer of GARRET they uses conventional battery not an exotic and difficult to find rechargeable batt , OK....
http://www.garrett.com/recon/r_aml_1000_key.htm

5) you can also have a spare pack of rechargeable AA NiMh battery in your pocket if you want easy to find now and cheap because of digital camera market....
Have a nice day
alexis.
