Any opinions on squeezing the last inch of depth from the E-trac?

Switching to manual was one way, an open screen was another, got any more ideas or combinations of settings to try..............:nerd:

scrub the ground with the coil. jack up your sound gain. use long tones. use deep on and fast off. hunt when the ground is moist and temps are in the nominal operating range for the electronic components 65 - 85 temps and low humidity. hunt early morning or evenings or night so there isn't as much solar radiation getting into the the detector. hunt far away from town and power lines and other emi source's.

that's as far as i can think to stretch the performance of a detector.

getting a bigger coil is the easy way.

Another thing you might try depending on how much modern ferrous trash is at a given sight is running Manual maxed in ferrous 2 tones with a wide open all metal screen.I have been running this way at my burnt CW town site with good results.I have dug some smaller items including small bullet and tiny pieces of lead at amazing depths.Judging from my results on tiny lead targets it should be a killer on small gold items/jewelry.Forget the numbers on ultra deep targets and go by sound and I am talking about sorry sounding signals compared to normal 8"-10" targets. The key is if they are consistent each time you re-sweep your coil over them even if they are week and iffy. The people who are only digging good solid numbers with strong warbling tones are leaving a lot of good stuff in the ground.
The secret for me was to find some private older sites that were cow pastures that the owners said I could dig all I wanted with my relic shovel as long as I filled my holes as I always do anyway.
I started digging a lot of not so perfect signals/numbers and learned more from them than a pouch full of nice warbling silver sounding targets/signals.The bottom line is if you want to get the most out of any machine you must dig a lot of less than perfect signals/targets to learn what it is telling you.And a nice manicured city park or lawn is not the place to further your education hence the private unkempt sites for training purposes.
On the other hand if you want to quickly cherry pick a site of the silver coins you will have the best machine for the job with an E-Trac:thumbup:

12" deep wheatie I just dug....okay..okay:smoke:...11.5" deep wheatie:biggrin:...the numbers were worthless...but the sound was there.

E-Trac...SE...EX2...whatever...sound is the key to breaking through that 10" deep coin plateau.
