Any opinions on assault rifles?................

I'm planning to purchase an addition to my arsenal, I'm currently looking at a bushmaster ar15, but a local gunshop is getting a few yugo ak47's, if I am fortunate enough, I would like to purchase an AK, the ammo is half the price of th .223, but the ar15 is 1200.00 and the AK is 650.00, I've heard through friends the AK is fun to shoot, but the ar15 looks so cool, what do you think?............

Buy the parts separately and build your own AR.It isn't that hard to do.You will only need to get the lower assembly(trigger unit) through a licensed dealer. The ARs can be real tack drivers and if you want a different calliber, just exchange the upper.

Lot's of cool parts available for both and surplus AK ammo is cheap and available by the truck load right now. I'd like an AK in 5.45x39 but they're not as common although theres a good supply of ammo floating around.

It took me 3 days of rubbing to get the cosmoline off of it. It's an ugly gun, meaning not very well polished out, glossy finish or anything like that. It was made for one purpose only, to kill. It was smooth to shoot but I didn't run very many rounds through her as it was about a 1.00 a shell to shoot. Mine came with 3 30 round banana clips. I finally sold it to get a new detector.

If you are looking for mostly target get the AR. If you want one for when things get bad get the AK. Also 223 ammo is hard to get now because of the military's use. There were shortages on 223 a few months back, not sure about now. If you get an AK get one with a forged, not China stamped steel receiver. It will cost more but they are much better! If you get the AK let me know I have 3 or 4 30 round mags blocked as per our 15 round capacity law here in NJ. I'll give them to you for the shipping cost.

Mainly my interest is home protection, I've got two revolvers, and I hate to think things would be bad enough to need an assault rifle, but who knows, I am going to try to get one of the AK's when they come in, but ya gotta be first in line..................
