any one try extending the length of the ProPointer?

Just wondering. Seems there are times when Im on a deeper target when I wish the thing was maybe 4 or 5 inches longer. I think it would eliminate some of the soreness I get in the palm of my hand due to the positional requirements in the deeper hole. I saw Garrett has something with a longer profile (shaft), but dont if that one searches with the same parameters (patterns) as the ProPointer or would work as well for hobby use as well as it might for airport security, etc. CO

Extending the tip wouldn't be easy, because that would involve lengthening the coil, which would require changing the gauge and number of turns to match the original specs. However, I guess you could just lengthen the connecting wires and move the same stock coil all the way to the end of a new tip, but even then that's a lot of work with a lot of potential problems. Probably the simply solution would be the best....You could glue a wood handle onto the tail end of the Pro Pointer. Something like a broom handle would probably be good.

I just epoyxed a 1/2 inch pvc female coupling to the battery cap and then you can use whatever length of 1/2 pvc pipe
with male thread of your choice. Personally I use about 3 ft. My wife and I usually hunt the beach together ( she has knee problems)
and after I scoop the target out of the hole she uses the pointer with the extension to retreive while I move on to the the next. Just like
a couple of bird dogs, only in reverse, I flush, she points.:detecting:

Wellwood, way to go, you gave me a direction to head in. I was maybe thinking something like pvc- that would get away from the metal fastener issues CO

Here's a picture....(I hope). Actually I used JB Weld, not epoxy.

PVC is a great idea. Lighter and probably much better than a broom handle. Easier to clean, etc. Good idea!

I like the idea about using a 3 foot extension so your wife can find the target without bending over. That's a killer idea.
