Last weekend, my wife and I spent the weekend in Portland, and I slipped 4 new batteries in the detector, to make sure I had plenty of juice for the hour or so of detecting that I would do. Got the detector out of the trunk, only to find that I had forgotten the headphones. I hate detecting without headphones. But I went ahead, and turned down the volume and started detecting. Detected for about an hour finding a few coins. Right before turning off the detector, I noticed that the battery level was already down to half. I thought that was odd, but it was the first time using that detector without headphones, so I didnt know what kind of drain rate there would be. Fast forward to last night. I grabbed the detector, pinpointer, probe, goody bag and headed out the door. Got to the field, turned on the detector, found a target and promptly snapped my probe in half! Well, I thought, I've still got half a probe, and half of my battery life left, so I soldier on. Within 5 minutes, my detector started sending a signal that the battery level was critical, then promptly shut off! Finally digusted, I packed up everything and headed home...first stop, the workbench. I got out 3 fresh batteries, placed them in the detector, then put the old batteries in one by one to find out if one of the old ones were dead.(I dont have a voltage meter, so this was my only way) Sure enough, I had a dead cell. I've never had one go DOA. Anyone ever had this happen?

the batteries were not up to par when you put them in - even if new. I have the voltage meter and it's not unusual for one or two to be the culprit. I usually put in new ones at that point and use the ones that are still ok for other things - like the clock. Steve in so az

we aren't meant to hunt right then! Maybe God knows something that we don't like too dangerous or whatever! Anyway, I don't worry about it, as I know He is in control! When I feel like I shouldn't have gone, it was Him telling me to stay home that day, because I usually couldn't hunt or wouldn't find very much if I did! :(

God Bless!

More than one occassion I have started swingin with a missing piece of my must have arsenal! I have also had plenty of not so good batteries! I hate when it happens, but have come to accept it. Just glad I can enjoy the hobby that I do!
