My sons lawnmower( walk behind, not ride) seems to have a mind of its own. The engine revs up and back down, and repeats its self. Its kinda like its going into high grass and then short grass. Any suggestions??

a round carb. bowl with a screw pointing up the middle that is the "neeedle" turn it all the way up to seat it and then 1 and a half turns down as a starting point and make sure the gasoline is fresh. GL Ev

At least on mine it is moisture in the fuel.
There is a round float bowl on the bottom of the carb and if you unscrew it and find gunk in the gas you know your problem.
flush out all the old gas and you will most likely have to clean out the float bowl a few more times until you got all the stuff cleaned out.
Some gas treatment might help with the water as well.

and then.... it could be different problem all together.
I am not a small engine mechanic
I just play one on the internet
Good luck,
mike

There is a pin coming out of the engine case with an arm that sits vertical. There is a thin wire rod that goes from this arm to the carb. There should be a spring that puts a snap back tension on the vertical arm, it may be broke, like most of us after buying all these detectors.
