Any Nugget hunters here using an MXT???

Yes, The MXT works well as a prospecting detector. You put a 6 X 10 DD coil on it and it's about the same as the GMT. The MXT prospecting mode was designed after the GMT. Have use them both successfully:whites:

I have used the MXT in the prospecting mode a couple of times, once on a trip to Colorado - found gold. Another time on a trip to Arizona - found some nice nuggets in the Prescott Valley area. The only difference in the MXT and the GMT is the GMT operates on a 48 KHz and the MXT operates on 14KHz. But I found you just cant pick up the real small nuggets that are more then 4" deep with the MXT. I agree with Tinpanprospector, get a 6 X 10 coil for it.

I have a question: How do you pinpoint in prospecting mode. I tried and its not the same as pinpointing in the other MXT mode, at least no on MY machine. Maybe there is something wrong with it.

When in the prospecting mode your detector is tracking the ground all the time especially in highly mineralized ground and picks up all metals. To track you just squeeze and hold the trigger in that stops the tracking and allows you to pin point. Then you just pin point like you would in jewelry mode go back and fourth over the target in two or three directions till you get a center mark on the ground. You can't pay no attention to the VDI # just listen to the sound. But I wouldn't use the prospecting mode unless I was in highly mineralized soil, and had a 6 X 10 DD coil on it.

Boy howdy does the MXT find NUGGETS.

The MXT seems to be a working solution with just a couple of coils.

Nuggets

Indian Chief: Hus du gezen in deine leiben, they darker than us. Woof!
(In Yiddish this means: Have you ever seen anything like this in your life?)

Nice nuggets, Ive been reading about Ganes Creek in the ICMJ's Prospecting and Mining Journal. Hope to take a trip up there myself. I need to post some of my gold finds Again I say very nice nuggets:thumbup:

That big one it is just a host rock with gold scattered through it right. If it's not then you could retire!

Hi Hillbilly Bob!

I am pretty sure it was mostly all gold. 2 troy pounds is 24 oz troy.

It caused quite a bit of excitement in the camp when the guy in the picture showed it.
The finder is Gerry and he is a good detectorist.
The nugget was quite spectacular to the locals. and even the TSA had questions. The situation became escalated when someone asked an off-topic question. The situation was resolved at the airport when a more important observation
arised.

Years ago one would go to 'town' to celebrate and the nearest town to Ganes Creek was Ophir Alaska where the registrar could be found for the region. You could get a good hot meal, see some entertainment and meet folks from the states. But as happens when government gets involved, the area suffers and so do the people. Ophir became a ghost town.

Well Gerry made it back home safely with little trouble trouble and a surprise for his wife.

Sure is nice to have good equipment in the bush of Alaska.

Well I guess that 2lb nugget well and truly answers that question. Now thats a find. Im gonna try the MXT out on an old mining site, here in Aus, next week and try out the small, I think 8", concentric for a bit more sensitivity oompf. The ground is pretty tame so I hope it will be stable enough to run flat out. The place was once smothered in small species and nuggets, hopefully the MXT snags a few more.
Thanks to all for the replies and pics.

I can't resist posting this picture of my 2 ounce nugget from Ganes Creek - found with an MXT. Found two other nuggets that trip with the MXT - .25 and .20 ounces - and some pickers with a GMT.
