Read an old posting on another website in regards to balancing..is quoted as bieng a tip from Whites.I wont write word for word .but all important parts....1:Turn machine off and hold coil at waist level 2:switch to prospecting mode and ground switch to ground 3:Turn discrimination all the way down..4:Turn on to full gain and slowly lower to ground, begining ground reading should have been 50,now keep coil on ground till reading reaches 70 then hit ground switch to lock.Suppose to make a noticable difference if having hard time balancing...I havent tried my self was more curious as to merit and whether works and any benefit ....Curt:shrug:

I've never had a hard time balancing. I usually hunt in C&J mode and as soon as I've swung the coil a time or two the background hum settles down and away I go. I often put the ground switch in lock once the machine is stable.

I feel you're best served to just turn the detector on in the 'ground' tracking setting and quickly bob the coil 3-5 times (usually all you need) from about 6" down to about
