Any improvements to the GTI2500, lately

I love this machine. The "seeing in the ground" concept has
captivated me for years with this Treasure Search screen
of relative size, conductivity and depth. Any word on their next evolution on this model?
The last change was years ago with the salt chip.

Hopefully they will upgrade it to an AT model, lighten it, and improve its hunting capabilities to have it compete more with the other top of the line VLF land mds.

Been hunting the 1500 some this spring. Using the 12" coil. It seems slower than the Pro, Ace, but still sniffs out the deeep ones. One note for me anyway, having to slow down some has its benefits. (Clad hunting)

I keep saying that the next new Garrett MD will be the replacement for the 2500, but I have ben saying that for years and still nothing! Then again, there isn't much more for Garrett to update with a new model at this point.

A lighter, waterproof version of the 2500 would be great to see. That could be my last detector to get!

I haven't heard of any changes. I doubt that the GTI 2500 will be discontinued any time soon. It is used in conjunction with the two box system.

I have been debating to part with my 2500. I just cant bring myself to do this. Partially because it is so much fun to use and partially because what it does find is usually good stuff due to the imaging feature and the power of the all metal mode. Sure it will miss stuff masked by nails, etc. My ultra fast recovery Gold Bug Pro also misses stuff. I recently tested both in the front yard on both fine gold chains and also the elevated nail test. First off the GTI is a capable micro jewelry machine. It is very sensitive in all metal and challenges the Gold Bug Pro on 3mm 14k chains. Plus, like the gold bug pro, the target ID also works while in all metal. Interestingly, it only partially worked on the elevated nail test. Like some of the youtube videos, I placed some common D size nails on 2x4 cut offs and moved these close together. I then placed a mercury dime in between and tried my detectors. The GTI hit maybe 25% on the dime with the nail within 6 inches of eachother. The Gold Bug Pro also failed this test with the 5" NEL Sharp and 5x10 Elliptical. Amazingly, the Gold Bug Pro with the stock 11" coil did the best and was able to see the dime no matter how the coil was swept. The target ID however was a solid 40 in lieu of the high 80's with just the dime. The tone over the dime screamed and grunted over the nails. A very iffy signal though as I have dug numerous rusty nails with the same sort of target response. Anyway, like I said, in the field, the 2500 keeps producing good targets.

For those that don't know the all metal that ID's is as deep as any....Noisy for sure but deep...Prefer the 1500 myself as the 2500 is too big and boxy but the 1500 does not have the all metal that ID's....
Doubt if they will update it but a lightweight model would be great....

Best detector in my arsenal for gold chains at the beach. The all metal mode is phenomenal!!
I don't use this detector much anymore, unless I'm serious about finding something specific that is very deep.
It is also an awesome Canadian modern clad detector, again one of my best for this purpose.
And it absolutely loves American coins......if it says quarter, you know you will dig a quarter.
I suspect there are better gold machines out there, but not with all the other features. I found my first gold ring with this machine and there was little doubt that I was digging anything other than a golf ring.
Though I don't use this detector that often anymore, it is still a favorite of mine!

I just bought another newer 2500 off ebay. Should be here before next weekend. I did not care for the treasure talk feature. The one I just bought has the back light button on the panel and no treasure talk. love this detector for the fun factor in using it. It has also consistently finds good stuff and I have dug a lot less trash. Sure t will miss a few things but they all do. Every time I try a new detector on old hunting grounds I find stuff the others have missed. Maybe due to different frequencies or maybe due to recovery rate, other electronics features, etc. In all metal the GTI will find everything my Fisher Gold Bug Pro will find and it also will ID it accurately. Very good machine. The weight does not bother me at all. This detector is very solid and the good thing about the weight is that the detector will not tip over if the headphone chord pulls on it like some of the featherweight detectors.

I also forgot to mention that the 2500 is easy to learn. This machine was my introduction to metal detecting and within a couple of hours I was swinging and finding treasure!

Ya I don't think I'll ever part with mine. I actually have two right now cause I purchased a second one complete with 3 extra coils for the extra coils. Gonna sell one of the two.
I recently took a friend hunting, and it was his first ever exposure to MDing. I gave him the 2500 to use and he was up and running within about 10 min. with a short lesson. He actually found more than I did that day.
I have mounted the coil so that the coil is closer to my feet to help with the balance. That seems to make the machine feel lighter. Also it is very important that the shaft length be adjusted correctly to minimize the weight.
With these two adjustments I too don't find it overly heavy.
I did purchase a bungee cord to help with the 12" coil though which I have yet to try. I do find the large coil heavier to swing.

A note on recovery speed. I have a newer 2500. The recovery is very good actually. Playing around with a 12D common nail and a quarter placed on the ground in different arrangements has given me some confidence in this detector. Even with this larger nail the GTI will find the quarter without any masking. What does happen though is that the ID will drop down to slightly below penny due to the different metals in close proximity; more of an average of the responses. But it does tend to favor the silver so is still high on the scale. This is with the quarter at only a couple inches away and using the 12" imaging coil. The imaging will still hit on coin sized object if you approach from different directions walking around the target. It will even ID as quarter as the coil is mostly over the quarter and ID as iron as you sweep mostly over the nail. So separation is pretty good with this larger coil. Wiggling the center of the coil over the quarter while raising and lowering the coil to expose the quarter and nail to a narrow or wider field helps sort things out too.

Going back to an older youtube video where Norfolk Wolf does his field test of the GTI 2500 with treasure talk shows a slower recovery. I am not seeing the same recovery on this faster newer unit I have. So I could say that they may have updated the electronics and programming based on my observations. With my 2500 the coil sweep speed does not seem to matter and even whipping the coil still detects the quarter next to the nail quite obviously. In Norfolk's video, the coin was completely masked and he had to keep moving it away from the nail.

Not sure but it appears they have improved its performance from the earlier versions.

Both the 1500 and 2500 are great coinshooting /jewelry machines - the imaging is still unique still since 97 or 98 ==accurate to 8 inches --- i know todays manufacturers trend is the 11" dd coil for ground coverage = which is great for open areas and you can use your larger shovel type digging tool ===== if your hunting private property -like i do - with the property owner keeping a watchful eye on your digging =the Garrett imaging and dead on pinpointing is exactly watch you need -- i always try to make a new friend with propery owners even let them the use my 1500
