Any ideas what this is? I found it at an old house site that happens to be a Union Camp site. Its 10.5 inches long and about 3.25 inches around the cup. Is it a lead melting pot? Is it part of a piece of farm equipment? If you have any ideas, let me know.

a pie or pastry crust iron of sorts.
Most definately for cookin.

Bedwarmer w/out the lid ?

I'm with Jim West PA on that one. looks like a press or mold for a little pastry cup to be filled with ?

The star has me wondering if it was from civil war days....The ridges would make the item in question being molded able to easily break into 4 sections. Maybe cuz it's for a sweet, rich dessert.

The star and 4 ridges would have been on the outside top, not against what was being baked.
You can tell by the handle and hinge that the other piece was on the bottom.
The other side is shape of small pie crust.
would be nice if you could find the other half.

It is half of what is known in Australia as a "Jiffy Iron". You butter 2 slices of bread, place one slice butter side down in the bottom half of the jiffy iron, place some tasty filling such as leftover cooked meat, tomato, or whatever else you have around. You then place the 2nd slice of bread butter side up on top and close up the iron, clamping it all together. The jiffy iron is then placed onto the hot coals of your camp fire or even onto the gas burner and cook each side until the bread is golden brown and good and hot through. Cut off the burnt corners and then have a minor feast. See picture of a slightly more modern version
