Any ideas on this piece?

I found this around an old home site yesterday and am wondering
if anyone has any ideas as to what it may be part of.
It is made of brass and is not solid, but hollow inside.
Maybe a cap for an oil lamp??
Thanks for looking,
Felix

Just a guess, but looks more like a drain plug from some sort of vehicle/motor/machinery.

My first impression is a plug for a hot water bottle. However, most I've seen are rubber or hard plastic.

I think it's one of those items that you only find when you're out hunting in the
cold rain (lol)......it was fun anyway !!!

Dave is right ,metal hot water bottle/ bed warmer cap. The top of cap may be marked with patent date and locations sold. I think some were marked on the side of the wire handle.

A lot owater bottles were made with metal end fixures and rubber bladdder bodies. These eventually ruptured and leaked resulting in dispsal... I used to have to fill them in the day for my Gramps and Grandma... They never went to bed without em in winter...

I was just researching in a book of U.S. Army uniform history and noticed the canteens that were issued to soldiers during different campaigns. The early ones seemed to have this type of cap. Maybe someone out there has a vintage canteen that's missing a cap.
