Any ideas on this piece??

I found this around an old home site yesterday and am wondering
if anyone has any ideas as to what it may be part of.
It is made of brass and is not solid, but hollow inside.
Maybe a cap for an oil lamp??

maybe a hot-water bottle plug,I remember something similar through the mists of time from my childhood.

I think someone else had a similar item in the Watzit forum and it was decided that it was a canteen cap. I will try to find the link.
