Any ideas I'm stumped!

I would like to know what it is made of? It looks like a part of a clay pipe if it is. I have seen Pamplen Pipes that color.
They were made of red clay from the area and were made in early days of the country. Or I could be talking out my butt.

The fact that it fits on your finger, and is slightly tapered, leads me to think....thimble?

IMO, it looks like a collet (sp?). In application you might see this on a number of items...
1.) decorative piece at the end of a flag pole, a pole in size/relation to being carried by one person.
2.) a (2) piece, extending pole assembly where one pole's o.d. is the size of the other poles i.d. This allows the smaller pole to slide inside the large pole or slide out to double its length and be tightened or held at length by the collet.
3.) if it was from something new (last 20 years), it looks like a connector on my detachable shower head. This part connects the hose to the head.

Piece off a broken beach umbrella...

After much reflection, I have come to the conclusion that it definitely is one of "those" things.
