Any Ideas, Clamp maybe?

INCH

New member
Found this last week while detecting, thought it was modern until the other day I looked at the 6 number Pat date 488760, year 1892 ? It is made of copper. The band is one inch wide, with a slot in it. It measures 3 inchs across, looks like it would fit aroun some type of hose. My pics arent to good, but maybe someones got a clue. Thanks for looking.Oh and the letters and numbers read 11/2-4 W-SHERMAN on the top face of the band with the pat date on bottom.

I searched and found a few they were used on the first Model T and other . It is made of solid brass. Found a picture of one . Thanks It is a hose clamp.

Believe it or not, this style clamp was used up into the 60s on many US auto heater hoses and even a few radiator hoses before that. When replacing hoses for my customers, I would update the clamps to the modern Ideal brand worm drive clamps that are used now. These would tend to stretch and were light steel in the later days.
