The reason that I ask is you can search the online records of the U.S. Patent Office for patents all the way back to 1790. However, from 1975 back to 1790 you can only use either the specific Patent Number or the CCL (Current U.S. Classification number). But if you know the date of issue you can work backwards, it takes a bit of time but it can be done.
For example:<UL>If you only know the year<UL><LI>In the year 1913.<UL><LI>The first Utility Patent No. Issued was 1,049,326<LI>The last Utility Patent No. issued was 1,083,266.<LI>Total number of Utility Patents issued in 1913 was 33,941
<LI>The first Design Patent No. issued was D043,415<LI>The last Design Patent No. issued was D045,097<LI>Total number of Design Patents issued was 1,683</UL></UL>
If you can add the month in the year the patent was issued. Since Patents are issued on every Tuesday of each month, you can use the Patent No. to bracket a range and determine which numbers were issued in Jan. 1913 (i.e. Tue. the 7, 14, 21, and 2
