Any idea what this is?

I found this in the Keys after the last hurricane. It was about 4" down and totally encrusted with just the tip showwing. The 1/2 reale was stuck to the bottom. Someone suggested a sail repair needle. I found it with my Whites 6000di pro.

good morning Zootman,

looks to me like a large net and burlap sewing needle, i worked 30 years as longshoreman/crane operator at port of Houston, we used these needles to repair all kinds of nets and to sew burlap together to make hatch seperations for cargo, i still have a set of them. If i can find them i will post a picture.
