Any idea what this is?

If it's copper or brass, it might be something for securing larger cables or wires. If it's steel, it looks like it may be part of a hinge -sort of like what a refrigerator door pivots on to open and close. These are just off-the-wall guesses and I hope you find something out. That's what's so fun with this hobby. HH
 
Looks like an old hinge from one of those refrigerators that had the cooling unit or whatever it was on the top. I remember seeing something like it in my grandmothers nasement. Just a guess though.
 
I found several pieces that look similar to yours - not exactly the same - but close - on a beach in Maine.
I was told they were some kind of marine / boat hardware - mine are made of brass.

My guess its hinge and due to its mettalic content to be used on or around water or a damp enviroment...
