Any idea on this band and button?

The band has stars all the way around it and like checkering all around the inside. The round button has like checkering on the front of it. The shank is intact also.

I've also found many flat solid one piece buttons. Some with backmarks, some without. Also a US bridal rosette and a mapping compass and a 1838 half dime all in this same field. Also alot of round lead balls that have been fired. Can't really figure out if it is a campsite or not. There is supposed to be one in this general vicinity. I'm just going to keep looking.

Mike, I dont know if it is pre or post CW, but I would not leave that site. Those are some great finds...d2

You are definately in a pre CW site. The ball or "cadet" button is usually associated with Dragoons (early Cavalry), Military schools and the like. However, I have never seen the checkering on one before, so most likely it and your other finds are civilian. Confederates used "flat, coin or penny" buttons throughout the war, and many early CS uniforms (especially TN and KY) sported one piece "flat" buttons. If there are Military relics present, you probably are in a prewar housesite that had CW activity around it. No idea on the brass ring. If it would fit a man's finger, it is probably just that, a ring. The flat spot would have been for engraved initials. Nice finds, David @ Dixie

That "checkering" effect on your items my be caused by the button being wraped in cloth. Same for the ring. Both items may have been against some cloth and when the cloth rotted, it left the pattern imprint on your items. What part of Kentucky are you in? Donnie V

That checkering is engraved in there. It wasn't by no cloth, I can assure you of that. I found these 2 other items there today. It just keeps giving up things.
