Any idea if this is a ring or ??

Went out last night and picked up a bunch of clad, a bullet, a crap ring and some fishing lures. Also hit what at the time I thought was a nice gold or silver ring, but after looking at it in the light of day and cleaning it up a bit, I have my doubts.

Anyone have an idea what this is? It looks like a fitting of some kind but isn't threaded inside. There's no visible markings on it and to tell you the truth, it feels more like lead to me than anything else.[attachment 40256 101006ring1.jpg][attachment 40257 101006ring2.jpg]

when I drop it on a table - I'll take it to work next week and have someone test it for me and let you know - my guess is it's lead.

Did you have any luck this morning?

It looks like a fighting ring ,the littie lumbs are made to cut. If it was a electric ring it would have thrids in side it ,may be made out of pig alum. or junk alum.

I think that's where this one is headed too sadly.

I've found so many rings this year, but my good/bad ratio is absolutely terrible. I take solace in knowing that I've found rings though, so hopefully in the future the ratio will turn my way.

That is what we call a rosary ring.
That is used to count how many times you say prayers to the Lord.
I found many here in italy, some gold , some crap.
Yours looks silver as seen from this side of the ocean...

Cheers

I'm fairly certain it isn't silver, but I'll check it at work tomorrow and let you know. If nothing else, it's another ring to add to my slowly growing pile of loot :)

Turns out that it's a combination of lead and tin. I looked up rosary rings and although there are similarities, I don't think that's what it is. All the rosary rings I found had 10 "nubs" and most importantly 1 cross shaped nub - that way when you count the prayers, you know when you've done 10 because you've hit the cross.

It might be a kids ring, but I can't imagine why anyone would ever want a kid to be wearing a lead ring with all the health issues surrounding lead.

It most certainly could be some type of "fighting" ring basically used as sort of a poor man's "brass knuckles" to use to cut someone when you punch them.

I don't think it could be a fitting of any kind for any piece of machinery because being lead, it's very soft and would have worn down very quickly. I might post it on a couple other sites I frequent and see if anyone else has ever run across one.

Darn shame it turned out to be junk though - I hit 2 rings out that night and both ended up being crap :ranting:
