Any good summary sites for Florida beach laws?

Myrtle Beach was a bust due to their recent sand replenishment program, so I am looking for other beaches for some vacation time this winter. I know about the "Treasure Coast" and their leasing of the right to metal detect there (altho i'm not entirely sure exactly the areal extent of the TC law) and am thinking more of the Florida Panhandle. Anyone know of a site that may cover the state county and local metal detecting restrictions there?

Check out the thread down a little ... OK here is a link:

One experience I had about a year ago on a Florida visit was that I could hunt openly on the beaches in front of the hotels and resorts, then I hit a one block section that was the Palm Beach Shores City beach park. I was in the water and had not seen any signs as I entered this block. As I headed from the water to some wet sand a guy on a 4 wheeler sped over and told me no detecting. I asked if it was posted, he pointed to where the sign was way up by the dunes. I turned the detector off and asked where the other boundary was. He pointed. I thanked him for pointing it out, we chatted about what I find (mostly trash, some change, get some exercise, etc) I asked him if he wanted the bottle caps I had dug on the restricted area, he declined. We shook hands and I headed to the edge of the private area and resumed hunting. On my return back towards the hotel, I walked up and read the sign and it did indeed say no detecting (among many other things that were not allowed). Turned the detector off for that block then resumed hunting on the other side.

Good luck when you take your trip!

Thanks, tvr. I missed that thread somehow.

I am not a diver (well, i am certified, but my detector isnt waterproof!), so as I see it, I may metal detect from dunes on out anywhere that a city hasnt prohibited it or is adjacent to a state or federal park. Additionally, if I find anything over 50 years old, I must report it to the state.

So now I guess I need to research which cities/towns allow or prohibit metal detecting in the Florida Panhandle. Anyone have any knowledge of this? Destin? Panama City? Pensacola? Ft Walton? Navarre?

Seriously? 50 yrs. old? heck, I think I get coins back in my change from 7-11 that are that old! (1960 or 61 pennies, jeffersons from the '50s, etc...). But .... gee .... as you know, there's someone following us around on the beaches, with a calculator in his hand, doing the math on the dates of the coins we find, so .......... sure, I'll rush down to state capitol and turn in the 51 yr. old coins

They re-nourished the beaches this year in Feb. They did the beaches from Caralon all the way down to St Andrews bay. There was 10 to 12 inchs of new sand put down from out about a mile into the Gulf. I have found a few good things but my counts are way down this year after the sanding, and then after Isaac, we have been really sanded in here in Panama City. As far as hunting restrictions from Destin South along the coast to Panama City, there are none except for the State Parks and you have to check with the park manager as it is up to each manager's discretion. Generally I have had no problems with the State Parks, You can hunt the dry sand from the base of the dunes to the high water line, and out IN the water but not the WET SAND.

You have to be careful up around Okaloosa Island, the AF has a rec area there and the wanna-be USAF cops tend to push the limits of "their" jurisditional area a bit and can be Nazis about it.

Hope this helps!
