Any good Southern Utah detecting sites?

After living here in Southern California for the past 40 years, I will be moving to Southern Utah in the New Year and wanted to start asking and doing research on areas worth detecting there. I am having a house built (I have 10 acres there)near Cedar City UT. Are their any metal detectorist's around there and also could you suggest any good sites within a 50miles or so radius? Thanks in advance for any suggestions! G.S.

Yes. Depends on what type of hunting you like to do. There are plenty of old towns, ghost towns, mining towns, the Old Spanish Trail, recreation areas and so on.

Welcome to Utah.

Thanks Rich, I'll pm you sometime to see what's out there! I like to hunt for coins and jewelry/ rings etc. It will be a whole different change from the sites I have gone to in California. An interesting learning curve! Thanks.

I too just moved to Utah from San Diego area. I have been detecting for some time now.My best find was In Virginia were I found a civil war compass and a foot away a home made silver ring. I now live in west jordan but we are building a home at Otter Creek Res. near the town of Antimony which is about an hour or so from Cedar City. Love to meet some were in-between and do some detecting. I have some areas that look very good which I do not think have been hit yet.

Awesome! Yes, when I get through with the move, I'll definitely get in touch. I bet the C.W. compass was a thrill to detect! Having made several trips up there just recently, I've had some feedback on some likely spots from people that don't detect which is a great thing! I'll be up there permanently in the mid-year and I'm looking forward to the move! Best wishes G.S.
