Any Garrett folks lurkning in here?

A question for any of you knowledgeable Garrett geeks. I have an Ace 250 that I have had for almost two years. Do these machines ever "get out of tune"? I ask because it seems that it's not as accurate on identifying targets as it once was. Half the time it identifies a dime, it turns out to be a penny and the other half is pretty much chunks of aluminum. Nickles are always chunks of aluminum. The only thing it seems to be accurate on anymore is a quarter. If it says the target is a quarter, 99 of 100 times it is correct. The Ace has been used a lot but not particularly roughly. SO I was wondering if this is a real phenomonon or is it my imagination? Appreciate your thoughts.

I have sent a few of my detectors back to Garrett for tune ups. It is a good thing to do over the winter as it sometimes takes up to 2 weeks to get your machine back.. There might be software updates for your Ace. Call them and ask. I find Brad (I think it's Brad) is the best guy to deal with. I have also dealt with Melinda who was FAB as well. I haven't got her on the phone in a few years, though. I guess Mary has been gone for several years. She was aces (pun intended) too.

Target ID is a guide. It's never 100% as I'm sure you know. Coppper penny and clad dime are interchangeable on all my machines depending on how the coin is oriented in the ground.

Copper pennies and dimes will ring up the same. Zinc pennies should ring up as a penny. If you have more than one kind of metal under the coil at the same time it will mess with what the detector thinks it is. For example a nickel and quarter next to each other will pull received signal towards the nickel range. Always re-scan your hole after you have dug something since what you found may have been masking something else.

From what you describe, I think your detector is working OK. You can always test it with known targets and see how it acts.

Yeah they may be right but it doesnt hurt to send in....or if your funds are ok.....go to kellyco website. They have a great deal to get an ACE 350 with accessories for 299.00.
The ACE 350 has amazing target ID...its defintely worth the investment.
