ANY FORMER MXT OR DFX USERS HERE?

Although I like the ID system of either of these machines, I'm leaning towards a Cortez or Vaquero, due to the weight of the whites. I'd like to know if the Cortez can match the depth of the whites, and which Tesoro of the two gets better depth,(or are they equal)? Looking for the deep old coins mostly. Has anyone noticed any drawbacks to the fixed ground balance in discrimination mode, since a low discrimination is what I run 98% of the time? Northern Indiana soil here-------not too bad most of the time. I appreciate any comments, since it's hard to switch to something different without advice from others who may have gone this path already.

Hi,
I am a former owner of a White's MXT. I had the machine for about 6 months. I have now traded in for Tesoro Cibola, New, which I will have in just a few days. I really liked the MXT a lot, but it was a rather heavy detector. It was however a very powerful machine, and I did find coins at depths of up to 11 inches. I found 4 mercury dimes with it, all ranging from 6 to 11 inches of depth. I also hit 3 indian pennies at similar depths. I did not find any jewerly with it at all. When my brother and I would go out detecting together, he would come up with 4 to 5 times as much as I did; detecting side by side with me. He always would find a least 1 to 2 silver rings when we were out, and sometimes even a gold earring, or a gold or silver necklace. His machine is a Tesoro Silver Sabre U Max. That was motivation enough for me. So, I just sold my White's Detector last week (just recently I owned the Whites IDX Pro - which I have had for about 1 year; and had bought right after my Whites MXT) and I bought a Tesoro Cibola brand new which I should have in my hands in just a few days. Surprizingly, I did much better with my Whites IDX Pro than I did with my MXT. I found about a dozen silver rings with my IDX Pro and a few silver coins.

I have nothing against Whites. In fact, it has been the brand of detector I have trusted for as long as I have been detecting. But, I thought maybe I would give Tesoro a try due to all the luck my brother has been having. I can not speak for the Tesoro Vaquero or other Tesoro units, as I have never tried them. I hope this helps you a little bit in your decision process.
Any questions, feel free to email me: qualityspanishtr@yahoo.com

Best of luck detecting!
Kind regards,
Kevin

I just recently bought a Vaquero but, kept my MXT. Went to California to do some detecting with my brother. I scored an 1899 IH with the little Tesoro at about 8". That is the deepest I have found any coin to date. I have found some silver dollar sized pieces of metal with the MXT at a measured 12" but no coins at that depth. What I like about my little V is that the controls are right there and adjustments can easily be made with the hand controlling the detector.

Well I also run a Minelab X-Terra 70. I am now using a Tesero Vaqureo. Now I know the 70 is not a MXT or a DFX. It is though a higher end TID machine. What I have found since buying the V is that I am digging more targets. I am also getting some great finds with it. I will continue to use both, but for ease of use and fun the V wins, beale.

I have 3 Tesoros and an MXT. I don't have the Cortez so can't compare there, but while I like the performance and features of the MXT, I find it HEAVY and a bit cumbersome. If I hadn't run into a deal too good to pass up I probably wouldn't have ended up with it. When I want to pack in to a site or just hit the ground running, so to speak, I grab one of the Tesoros. Am headed to a competition hunt this weekend and the MXT will stay home. My two bits.
