Any ferrous audio users out there?

Would you mind sharing what you like and dislike about it? I haven't used it yet but I will tomorrow. It just dawned on me that this could be the ticket to hunting those iron infested sites by dramatically altering the way you apply discrimination if any. You guys are probably saying "duh", but I feel like I may have just reinvented the wheel or something. Can't wait to try it.

KurtB, I have just the place to experiment with the Farous sonds.. I have been trying to hunt a very trashy park that I know holds hidden coins. I will give it a try. Worth a shot.
Thanks for the tip.

It is a very effective way with dealing with iron trash, and many of us who have the older explorers hunt exclusively this way. Unfortunately on the E-trac they changed the way the machine responds to ferrous and mapped almost all the values to 12, basically eliminating the advantage of using ferrous.

There is a whole ton of posts about this from a few month ago.

Well every now and then I will use conductive/multi if I am clad hunting. For everything else I use ferrous/2 tone. A low tone for iron and a higher tone for non-ferrous. You can pretty well trust the conductive number. It will false less in 2 tone. Very stable. Will pick goodies out of trashy "worked out" spots using the Pro coil. Be ready to dig iffy signals that five you a good conductive number and a reasonable ferrous number (the ferrous number may be pretty well off due to nails or other trash but the conductive will usually either lock on from one direction or will pop in/out consistantly). All you have to lose is a little time digging and you have a lot to gain. Run it in the relic pattern, ferrous, 2 tone, fast on, deep on, auto+3 sens. Like I said above, 2 tones will give you less chatter or false signals. Stop and check out all the high tones, you'll make some good finds and the E-TRAC will perform like a champ!

I tried out fe audio today and ended up with a fist full of clad along with a bunch of bottle caps and pull tabs. Most of the bc and pt were dug knowing that they were trash but I dug them anyway. I'll try 2 tones next time. Thanks for the advice.

I have used the 2 tone ferrous at a couple of places. I don't like using it in a park most of the time but it will be great for my field hunting where I dig any non-ferrous target anyway. I liked the ferrous audio on the Explorers a lot better, it was all I used.

Hi Kurt.

If it's iron trash you are having trouble with, instead of discriminating it out, turn it on it's head and hunt completely open with no pattern. Okay it's seems mad but if use Ferrous sounds and choose 4 tones, the low tone breakpoint is FER 30. Your iron will be in the FER 30-35 area so you dig the top three tones.
You guys will get the second tone for your coins.
Just make sure you turn your headphones down slightly until you get used to low tones. The good targets will leap out. Keep DEEP On and FAST Off as having no pattern will speed things up enough.
