Any electronics wizards here?

I have a Minelab Advantage that went squirrelly on me. It turns on fine but will not make a sound on any metal waved under the coil. If I touch the coil connector where it it goes into the control box it starts beeping like crazy. I take my fingers off and it goes silent again. I assume it's coil problem but not sure. My brother in Ohio borrowed my spare Advantage with coils so I have no other coils right now to test. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like it may be time to fire up the soldering iron and repair a coil connector. The jack on the instrument itself doesn't seem lose when you tighten the coil connector to it I suppose? Ok I hope you can repair it.

Thanks John. I checked the coil connector and didn't see any broken wires so l will send it to Minelab.

The only way to really test if there is a broken connection is with a ohm meter to see if each wire has a reading with another wire that goes to the same coil in the loop. After the test you should have two pairs of wires that give a reading (i.e. red - black, green - blue).
