Any detecting difference in rained on versus dry ground?

I have a rain hood for my Silver uMax and I was wondering if there's any differences detecting in ground that's been rained on for days versus dry ground? Thanks.

short answer is yes

long answer is well long  more time than I have right now to answer, sure others will share their thoughts.

I have always felt that the detectors I have had respond better when the ground is wet and the temperature is on the cool side. But we can't wait on just the perfect day, just take what you have and hunt.

Yep..for me a nice wet day, overcast and cool are about perfect for both signals and digging...dry ground and hot days, not so much..you can plan a massive hunt around those days in the Spring and Fall for some of your real primo locations where you think theres something hidden there for you...like Ron said, you cant wait for the 'perfect' day, but you can sort of try to be in the right place when it shows up once or twice /yr! The rest of the time, general hunting and totlots keep a guy busy!:lmfao:

Hunting during a rain is going to give your a detector any kind of advantage, nor is hunting with the ground sloppy. But, cooler weather and the ground damp my detector perform better.

Yes, there is a difference. Depending on the HALO targets can be detected deeper and better if they were buried for longer time.
What I had in the past was the feeling it was better because more rubbish was dug up. Even target ID-ing changes in wet soil.
So to me dry soil works better as ID-ing is done as it should and the good targets find rate rises because the rubbish will not "shine".

add some darkness no sun flairs less EMI around for the most part detectors seem to go better at night.

I have proven this MANY times!! I used to hunt a lot at night because it was COOLER and I worked evening shift so going detecting at night just seemed natural at the time.
Its not just solar flairs but I'm a firm believer that the sun rays "Solar Rays" charges ground minerals at lest at the surface and it also charges areas (layers) in the atmosphere that causes radio inference (EMI).

I don't believe that damp ground has a positive effect (enhancement) on iron halo and a negative effect on no-ferrous targets. I've found that along with the increases effects on the iron there is also an increase on target responses on coin like targets.
Ham radio operators much prefers radio conversations at night or early morning.

I am with you Mark, I hunt mainly at night for a few reasons one being what you have said and expanded on my thoughts fish bite harder at night

the water thing is strange seems to find some coins etc.. then drying or dry ground finds others just what I have seen but also not one machine with find everything also and so from what I have seen a few machines is a good idea of different makes and modals seems to work for me.

it sure is fun hobby if I wasn't learning or thinking about what I am doing it wouldn't be interesting and I would go do something else, but hey whats not to like :bouncy:

Ir's actually best to wait until the rain has soaked into the ground. If it has JUST rained, the depth will actually be less as it breaks up continuity. I found this out early on.

The dry ground may yeild deeper targets considering ther is very little grass. but the over all signal depth does seem affected by ground moisture.
