Any CTX 17in Coil Reviews?

HI

Does anyone have the 17in coil and could give their opinion on whether there's any depth increase over the 11in coil.

Thanks in advance..

Its not out yet. Still on back order

I have the 17 inch coil and have been using it for beach hunting....A few thoughts. I used it with a Swingy type harness looped through the integrated tear drop holes near the handle (I looped zip ties through both holes and then clipped the harness to the zip tie to minimize wear) Even with the Big Coil the target ID's are the same. I know this in that I knocked out new zinc pennies and with the big coil on they were still hitting in the same spots. Pull tabs were still at 12:15. The particular beach I was hunting at is notorious for fluctuating salt and so I ran the sensitivity between 15 and 20. I have not tried it at fresh water lakes but I imagine that just like a Sovereign with a WOT...you can run it much hotter in fresh water. As for performance it sees targets at 13 to 15 inches with very strong target signals. It is also sensitive to small bits in that it seems the center down the middle is sensitive almost like having a wide scan coil in between the Double D. If you would like any photos or if you want me to test any objects let me know and I will be happy to post here. A last thought is that it is a BIG coil. For me it will be a specialty coil for areas like the Treasure Coast or when hunting sanded in conditions. It does alter the weigh distribution of the CTX quite a bit so I would recommend a swing type harness.

Best Regards

Tony Diana

PS to your original question. A most Definite Yes as to an increase in depth! Will hit the lake tomorrow with it and take some pictures and estimate some depths as best I can

Thanks for the informed review Tony and for the link Digger, by chance yesterday I met with a 1/4 mile away neighbour and he offered me his land to detect on, about 15 acres. He said he had been told by a local historian that a small battle between some clans and the occupying forces of the English had taken place there about 300 years ago, possibly some retreating Jacobite's after Culloden being pursued and standing there ground, as you can imagine I'm looking forward to getting out there. Ive been trying to find out more about it but can't find anything as yet so I think it may just have been a drunken punch up after the pub shut. I'm digging 100-150yr old coins here at 6-9 inches and considering this I'm expecting anything to be real deep as its all quite soft ground hence the need for more depth. Thanks again.
