Any Compass X-80 (or other X-) owners?

Any tips or tricks to these machines? How are they? I just got my hands on one, and am looking forward to trying it out. Just downloaded the manual, and am cleaning the machine up now. Going to put batteries in it and fire it up! :clapping:

I joined that forum already... Just wondering if there were any users here...

Nice Score!
I own many Compass machines and Love using them as they are
just as good as some of the pricier ones.I have a green box X-100
and don't have alot of time on it but it's just a fun machine to use
and can get deep if needed. Any time you make adjustments to
tuning and field adjustments make sure you always reset machine
with all-metal button to keep machine in sync.I would hunt in basic disc.
for a while to feel out machine and after a few hours start playing with
adjustments to learn how to tweak for optimal settings for the site
you are hunting. Compass made some great machines and Compass ROCKS!
I am on that Forum also. Good Luck and some of those Compass guys
are Top Notch and very knowledgeable!

Excellent, Silverseeker 2. Thank you for the tips...
Copying and pasting them to a txt file for later use. Too cold right now to try it, but maybe later today.
I have two coils for it. I am planning on starting with the 8", and maybe trying the 12" for a little while.
I think the weight of the 12 with the weight of the machine might be too much for a long hint, but might make quicker work of my yard... We'll see...
What coils do you have? Any preferences?

My preferred coil is the 8" for general purposes but if trash is heavy I'll use
the 3" coil which doesn't cover a lot of ground but if in the heavy trash you
don't need to cover a lot of ground. I'll work small areas at a time because I
don't want some other guy coming in after I clean up an area so I work small
areas methodically. If I am woods hunting I'll pick up the pace till I hit that
area where targets start ringing in or Iron starts to overwhelm certain areas
you know there was activity. I own a couple 12" coils but have yet to run
with them yet.One day though I'll put them to the test! Good Luck with
your new Compass find and remember "Compass Rocks!!! The 3" coil is rare and hard to find
and usually pay a good penny for one but I was fortunate to land 2 of them in great condition.
Keep your eyes and ears open and eventually you can find one but they don't come up for
sale to often. Wish you the best this year.Any questions on Compass machines just go to the
Compass Forum and those guys will help you out as most are great guys on that Forum and
have made some good friends over there! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Used the Goldstar 1000 and the X-100 years ago. Compass made some good machines. The X-100 was good with a 8" coil but the 12" made it a beast. Used the 8" in thickets and tight spots and popped out some 6lb shells at 2 foot mark easily. The Goldstar I had the 16" coil on and got 3" Hotchkiss shells close to 3 feet. You had to stick your head in the hole and reach down to get the target. The one thing about the X-100 was the waxy coating they put over the mb inside. A friend left his in the trunk on a hot day and that stuff was oozing out the joints. BTW, cute beagle, I'm a beagle fan.

...I think that the Compass X-80 and the X-70 are basically sleepers....most people are looking for the Gold Scanners and Coin Scanners...it has a neat control knob...sorry that I forgot the exact name....you can change the signal to be narrow or you can make the signal to be wide....the narrow signal is good for hunting in junky parks and schoolyards while the wide signal is good for covering more ground like you are searching for a ghost town site and do not know exactly the perimeters of that location....some have a backlight on the meter good for hunting in the dark or for searches that go into the twilight zone..... for coin hunting I like the 6 inch coil the best...for deep relics and caches use the 12 inch coil...if you are not use to the extra weight your forearm will look like Popeye's in no time....LOL....the 6 inch coil is very RARE.
