Anti-bottle cap settings?

A

I've decided to hit newer areas here in California to learn the C$ so I don't pass any good, deep targets.
It sure does seem to love bottle caps with foil and tabs notched out. I usually set my sens. at 5-8, Disc at 99, and thresh at -35.
Any advice out there on either disc against them or some numbers tricks to look for when caps are encountered.
Still climbing the curve.
Tim

that's been suggested by a few people is to raise the coil up a few inches & then the numbers should rocket way down on a cap. Where as numbers should pretty much stay "Locked" on a coin target. I'm more of a relic hunter so I have not really tried this. See, the Coin$trike was designed to be just that...a unit designed to seek round coin-sized objects. But, remember alotta ID units have trouble with these caps as they are made of steel mostly. Many people find 1 rusty cap the first day & then say the C$ mis-ID's iron & sell it. These are not iron though Steel rusts too But, I've found so many coins in trash all other units mask that an occational rusty cap dig is no big deal. Sorta along the lines of getting usted to a 1266x's chatter in order to get great depth. You may also find after alotta hours that coins have a more unmistakeable crisp sound as well. Trash, especially iron really sounds hollow to my ears now. HH, Bill

Hi,
the best way to not dig those bottle caps is to hunt somewhere else. The CS is just not going to back off enough to skip all of them. Even at the lowest settings it's still running too hot.
Realistically there's nothing worth digging in a place covered with bottle caps anyway.
My old Whites QII would filter them out, but at those settings had very little depth.
See the web page below re this.
